Staircases, balconies, mezzanines, terraces
A railing is the piece of ironwork you touch every day. It has to be right: pleasant to the hand, solidly fixed, with the right design for your interior or your façade. We build straight or curved staircase handrails, balcony and window railings, and protection for mezzanines and terraces, indoors and out.
From plain balusters to ornate scrollwork and friezes, every model is designed for its exact location, then forged in our Brussels workshop.
Safety first
A railing is first and foremost a safety feature: protective heights, baluster spacing and fixings are all sized according to good practice and current Belgian standards, based on your building's configuration. We confirm this during the visit, before any design work begins.
Outdoors, the finish is what gives it longevity: galvanising, powder coating or epoxy depending on exposure. Indoors, patinas and lacquers let us match the piece to your home's style, from classic to fully contemporary.
Repairing a railing rather than replacing it
A balcony railing that moves, bars eaten away by rust, an anchor that has worked loose from the stone, a cracked handrail: in most cases repair costs less than replacement and keeps the original ironwork.
Depending on condition, we re-anchor the fixings, straighten deformed sections, weld or re-forge missing bars, then treat the whole against corrosion before repainting. In older Brussels buildings it is often the cast-iron façade balustrade at fault — see our dedicated page on cast-iron balustrade restoration, a rare specialty of our workshop.
One thing we always check: a railing that moves is not merely unsightly, it no longer does its job. Where corrosion has eaten too far into the metal, or the height no longer complies, we say so plainly and propose replacement. But we always start by looking at whether the existing piece can be saved.
Frequently asked questions
Indoor or outdoor, is it the same piece?
The design can be identical, the finish shouldn't be. An outdoor railing gets reinforced corrosion protection (galvanising or powder coating), while an indoor piece favours decorative patinas and lacquers.
My staircase is old and irregular, is that a problem?
No, that's exactly the point of custom work. We take the real measurements on-site, step by step if needed, and the railing is forged to follow your staircase exactly as it is.
My balcony railing moves — does it all need replacing?
Not necessarily. A railing that moves usually comes down to the fixings rather than the ironwork itself: re-anchoring the fixing points is often enough. We check it on site, free of charge, before proposing anything.
Can a rusted railing still be saved?
Usually, yes. As long as the metal section is not too far gone, stripping, repairing the affected parts and an anti-corrosion treatment give the piece decades more. That judgement takes an eye and a hand, on site.
Will the railing meet safety standards?
Yes. Heights, spacing and fixings are set according to current Belgian standards for your configuration, and confirmed during the technical visit.
